I'm an idiot and thought that since the brand was "roller derby" these were derby skates. ha. I now know better and I'm using these ones to learn how to skate well before splurging on some speed skates. The only issue I have with them is that the soles push up when I put my feet in them. Very annoying.

I purchased the women's roller derby roller star 550 quad skate for my eleven year old daughter. She absolutely loves them. We skate maybe once a month and the skates are actually good on a real roller rink floor. I would suggest a pair of these skates to a beginner skater. As you progress...the wheels will need to be changed.

I just bought these skates and I haven't had a pair of skates since I was a little girl! But I started to remember how to skate not but five minutes after putting them on in my kitchen! And I am having so much fun! They skate really well, I love the white and purple tires! The white is a perfect canvas for me to doodle and draw on them! I'm so excited! I only gave them four stars because frankly I just bought them and haven't been skating for very long. But i'm sure with time and practice and a LOADS of FUN i'm going to edit this review and give these neato skates five stars! I can't wait to be a roller derby girl! Oh and I bought them at Academy: Sports & Outdoors for only $35.00 so they were a great deal!

They feel good and fit good! I'm not yet used to the wider wheels but I'm getting used to it. The wider wheels with the ribbing on them create more traction with the floor for more of a grip. This is nice when you're learning, but it's something to get used to when you're used to a broken in wheel on a previous pair. I do have more control with these skates, but since more traction slows me down quicker, I have to put more effort in getting moving.

I was sent the wrong product all together. Very disssatisfied. I ordered the low top blue skates (as shown above) and I got high top purple skates.

You need to research before you buy the shoe to skate size conversion. Don't purchase based your childs shoe size. I had to return these skates because they did not fit.

It was terrible. The wrong item was shipped and it took them over 2 weeks to send a return label. I had to place 4 phone calls and 3 emails before I finally got them. They never returned my call. I had to practically stalk them. By that time, the birthday was over and I ended up sending the wrong product back. I will never purchase from this company again.

I have just started skating again after 20yrs, i take my daughter skating once a week so decided to buy my own, these skates are highly recommended for a learner very lightweight and fun :0)

Buy these skates a size bigger than you normally would and wear extra thick socks. They take a little while to break in - but after they are broken in - they are super comfortable. Great for roller derby. I wear a woman's 8, but these run in men's sizes - so I would have gotten a size 7 - but - I knew not to because I tried on a friend of mine's size 8 and it fit well with the extra socks - I think skating with two pairs of thick socks is the best thing to do to prevent blisters anyway. Since the ABEC rating on the bearings is 1 - get some ABEC 9 bearings - off of amazon - and change them out if you really want to go fast. The ABEC 1 bearings are a lot slower than the ABEC 9 ones.

When I was younger, we always bought rollerskates one size bigger and wore thick socks. Maybe that would solve the width problem? I'm going to try it and I'll let you know how it goes. Addendum: That didn't work. I'm returning them.

I have been mostly disapointed in these skates- the wheels aren't great, ( I fell constantly the first few times I wore them, and I'm experienced) the skates aren't really fast at all, the boots are SUPER stiff, and they are murder to break in, and of course, as I mentioned in the title, they will CRUSH the front of your feet if they aren't narrow. They feel somewhat clunky, stiff, and unworkable. I suggest getting these if you want to learn or practice, but get better skates (you get what you pay for) for when you're confident. You'll thank yourself. Your feet will also thank you!

Yes these skates are for those with narrow feet. I have small narrow feet. They are wonderful!!! Easy to move in and great support around my foot. I don't like the wheels they come with. I do recommend buying other wheels for inside skating. Then just the wheels these skates come with for outdoor use.

The skates seemed like a good quality but they were too narrow. I ended up exchanging them for skates that come in "D" width.

There's a tradeoff when it comes to things like kid's skates. They're not going to use them a whole lot before they outgrow them, so it's tempting to buy a cheaper product and move on before it falls apart. (The alternate approach would be to take the nicer item onto the used market when you're done with it.) These skates though are a bit too far into the cheap and junky territory. I wouldn't claim these to be unsafe out of the box, but the wheel assemblies are not very strong, and they do fail after a few hours of use...

Very solid pair of skates; if you plan to get any speed out of them you will need to change the bearings to something better.

We went to a skate party for one of my 8-yr old son's friends and he caught the bug. He couldn't wait to get home and get some skates. These have been perfect for him to learn and get really good at skating. We are using them on concrete, and the fit and durability are great. He also likes that they are more like shoes and don't come all the way up on his ankle. Makes for easier off and on also. They have been great for him!

I read most of the reviews and was surprised at how many negitive ones these skates had. Nevertheless, I could not pass up the price or the free shipping so I bought two pair, one for my 8 year old daughter and one for her best friend. No complaints here! Both skates look great, work great, and are still going strong. The girls skate both outside and in the rink and wouldn't DREAM of using their old skates ever again. These ones are definitely a step up from what they were using before. They really love the wide wheels, how smooth, and how much faster these skates are compared to their old ones. Mind you, their old skates weren't too bad, (they were the standard kiddie ones with the brightly colored wheels) but they certainly weren't these skates. If I had to nit-pick, I dont know if I would purchase these skates for a brand new skater only because I dont know if the "pleather" could take the beating their old ones took and still look ok to "hand-me-down" but these skates are durable all the same. This was a great purchase I didn't have to break the bank for so I'm happy about that.

These are a perfect pair of beginners speed skate. I purchased them for my 9 yr old daughter and they fit, roll, and stop great. Now with the exception of making wheel adjustments, these are superb roller skates.
